Every entrepreneur has their own style and techniques to bring in customers. Your personality and natural salesmanship are key factors in creating your customer acquisition strategy. That said, by themselves, those aren’t enough.

If you think of customer acquisition like it’s a movie, your personality is the star. But every movie needs supporting players and a strong team behind them. In the case of Customer Acquisition, those are your emails, social media posts, texts, and other forms of shared content. Learning to use them to highlight “YOU” is going to supercharge your customer acquisition strategy!

Email Marketing

If we’re going to compare running a small business to shooting a movie, then your email marketing would have to be the script!

Truly effective email marketing is a tricky target to hit. Too few emails, and they won’t have the desired effect of engaging your customers. Too many, and they’ll feel like you’re spamming them.

The key to great email marketing is in the content you are sending them. Firing off a message every week that says nothing whatsoever isn’t going to help you acquire customers. But if you send them some kind of content, like a link to a blog, then your emails won’t come off as spam.

Social Media Posts and SMS

One of the best parts of going to the movies is seeing the trailers for the upcoming blockbusters! These short cinematic bursts are designed to have maximum impact on the audience in as little time as possible. That’s not unlike what social media marketing is supposed to do!

Your social media needs to be much more than just shots of your dog (although a few shots of your dog isn’t necessarily a bad idea…). Your social media should be short, carefully constructed pieces of content designed to engage with your audience instantly. They could be teasing a new product, calling attention to a recent blog, or simply letting your customers into your personal life. In other words, think of them like little movie trailers for your business!

Customer Service

If a movie is full of big stars, you know who gets them those big paychecks? Their agents.

An agent is a person who smooths everything out and takes care of their clients. In that sense, their job is in customer service! They do just about anything to make sure their clients get treated properly. And that’s exactly what you should be doing with your clients/customers!

Fostering a sense of great customer service at your business is one of the fastest ways to build a reputation for excellence. Terrific customer service will get you positive online reviews, referrals, and rapid word-of-mouth. If a customer contacts you with a question or problem, you should respond to them ASAP to help them out. That’s what a fantastic Hollywood agent would do, and it’s what you should do too!

Landing Page/Website

Nothing gets you quite as excited for a movie as seeing a fantastic poster. Just look at the latest Star Wars movie. Now, that is a poster that demands that you see the movie! With only a few words and beautiful images, it tells you an entire story.

When it comes to marketing, your product landing pages and website are your poster. They need to be eye-catching, telling a story to potential customers from the second they lay eyes on them. What’s important is that all of your web content is professional and polished. If your website looks like it was thrown together in 20 minutes using SquareSpace, it’s going to reflect poorly on your business. Just like a movie poster, you need pro-quality graphics to make the impact you want!

Products/Services

After filming is complete and the movie is finally cut together, it’s time for the big red-carpet debut!

When you’re launching a new product or service, it’s essential to make a big splash. If you simply post it on your website without so much as a whisper, no one is going to know about it. But if you do a full-out marketing blitz, utilizing all of the customer acquisition strategies discussed above, then you can get people talking!

When coming up with your business, it can be advantageous to read the tea leaves and see where things are going. I’m a big believer in CBD.  So, when I saw the growth potential of the CBD market, I knew I was going to start a CBD business! And that bet paid off big! CBD products are precisely what the market is demanding right now, and that demand is getting bigger and bigger!

There are so many components to running a business and acquiring new customers. As an entrepreneur, you know that your customer base is your lifeblood. Without them, your company has a shelf life of days, rather than years. Yes, it can be tricky to balance so many aspects of your customer acquisition strategy, but with practice and experience, you’ll find new clients in places you never suspected!

But no matter how busy you are, make sure you take some time to go to a movie, every now and then!
