Do you ever feel like Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I know I do!
In a world where you can ask Alexa or Google and give you an instant answer, it’s hard to remember when you didn’t know the answer and had to use the library or encyclopedia to find out the answer. Do you remember when you had to think about the question, wonder about the answer, and decided if you wanted to know the answer? The process of pondering is a lost art, in my opinion. Or better yet, a skill set that took time to build. The skillset took patience, due diligence, and critical thinking. Success tends to get an abundance of glory, with highlight reels and posts only showing the wins. In reality, success is not instant, nor is it easy. I’ve said it before as one of my top mantras: success is a choice! But when I say that, I also mean you must choose hard work, early mornings, sacrifice, long hours, and failure. When you accept failure as part of the process, something to learn from and not run from, you will start to see success.
When something doesn’t go your way, that can be incredibly upsetting. When plans don’t go as planned, they can rock our world. Take Thomas Edison, for example. He tried 10,000 filaments before he found a way to make the light bulb light up! And when being interviewed, he was asked how it felt to fail 10,000 times. His reply was, “I didn’t fail 10,000 times; I found 10,000 ways to not make a light bulb!”What if we took the Edison approach to look at success. To not need instant gratification and to thrive on the process. But how do you do this without feeling discouraged? Below are a few tips I’ve pulled together to help.
If you are reading this, you are already in the minority. Your way of thinking and mindset puts you in a different category than most society, and that’s a good thing! Today’s social media culture has ingrained in us that we must look perfect. Communicating through filters, creating tik toks we can rehearse, showing stories we can perfect, and reels where we choose precisely how society will perceive us. Please don’t get caught up in this! You can be vulnerable and fail and be successful. You might be in an uphill battle, but you can persevere and have hope. You are deserving, and I believe that you will reach all of your dreams if you make sure to not box yourself in with the definition of success, have patience, and have integrity while working hard.
You see, wanting something and working hard for it is never wrong, but being spoiled with instant gratification is garbage! Be a little less like Veruca and a little more like Charlie Yes, this is the golden success ticket.
